Our Story
About Villa Serenity
A place built on the idea of slowness
Villa Serenity was conceived in 2018 by a family who had spent decades searching for a home that felt both of the world and apart from it. They found their answer on a quiet stretch of the Koggala coastline — a parcel of land where ancient jak trees met the Indian Ocean.
The architecture, designed over three years with a Colombo-based studio, was guided by a single principle: nothing should fight with the landscape. Teak sourced from responsible plantations, stone cut from local quarries, and hand-woven textiles from artisans in Kandy were assembled into four suites that feel both elemental and deeply refined.
Today, Villa Serenity receives a small number of guests each year — by design. The intimacy of the villa, and the attention of the team, would be impossible to preserve at scale. We believe in depth over breadth: fewer guests, more care.
Our Values
What we stand for
Restraint over excess
We believe luxury is not about more — it is about the precise right amount. Our spaces, our team, our menu: all are deliberately small in scale and large in quality.
Sustainability as practice
The villa runs on 80% solar energy. Food waste is composted. We partner exclusively with local suppliers. Environmental responsibility is not a marketing point; it is simply how we operate.
Community as context
We employ entirely from the surrounding villages. Tours and experiences offered to guests are operated by local guides. Villa Serenity exists within its community, not apart from it.
